KEVIN M. LALLY

KEVIN M. Lally is a partner in the Los Angeles office of McGuireWoods. He has extensive experience handling complex, high-stakes federal criminal investigations, enforcement proceedings, and litigation.

LallyservedasafederalprosecutorintheU.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California for nearly two decades, most recently as senior litigation counsel in the Major Frauds Section.

During his 18-year tenure as an assistant U.S. attorney, including five years as chief of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force Section, Lally led several of the highest-profile and heaviest-litigated cases brought by the Central District of California in the last two decades. He tried 15 cases, including four multi-month trials, and secured the conviction of every trial defendant.

LallywasnamedProsecutoroftheYearbytheLosAngelesCountyBarAssociation after prevailing in the three-month RICO trial of celebrity private investigator Anthony Pellicano. He has argued 18 cases before the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, including a sweeping victory in the consolidated Pellicano appeals.

Since joining McGuireWoods in 2019 as a member of its Government Investigations & White Collar Section, Lally has obtained a dismissal with prejudice onbehalfofaleadingtelecommunicationscompanyinasuitinvolvingthealleged illicit disclosure of protected communications, and secured the release of $10 million in seized funds to pay for a client’s legal representation.

Lally has been selected for inclusion in the Legal 500 United States for corporate investigations and white collar criminal defense for 2020 and 2021. The National Law Journal named him a Criminal Law Trailblazer in 2020.

Lally earned a BA, cum laude, from the University of Notre Dame, and a JD from Duke University School of Law.

Married with two children, Lally’s Irish heritage traces to multiple counties: Lally (Galway), Herlihy (Cork), O’Sullivan (Limerick), Brady (Mayo), and includes relatives still in Ireland (Limerick, Dublin). His grandfather, Dr. Maurice O’Sullivan, who emigrated from Limerick as a student, hosted the first television show in the U.S. to celebrate Irish culture, aptly named Irish Heritage, which aired on New York City public television from 1956 to 1958.

Lally’s father, Gerald Lally, speaks Irish and regularly attended marching season in Northern Ireland as a member of the Irish Parades Emergency Committee and the Brehon Law Society. He provided testimony to a British tribunal investigating the assassination of Irish civil rights attorney Rosemary Nelson, and was one of a select group of Americans who attended the official ceremony celebrating the 2007 power sharing agreement in Northern Ireland.
