ANNE MARIE MURPHY

ANNE Marie Murphy is a partner at Cotchett, Pitre & McCarthy, LLP. Based in the firm’s Burlingame, California office, she practices civil litigation focusing on complex commercial litigation, class actions, consumers’ rights and elder abuse (including both financial abuse and nursing home abuse).

Her litigation practice is far ranging and includes litigating against Major League Baseball over the Baseball Antitrust Exemption, representing taxpayers in a suit to stop Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger from selling major Californian historic properties and courthouses, and co-leading the Robinhood outages litigation.

Murphy has practiced extensively in the area of elder abuse, handling many notable cases including jury trials against nursing homes and those who have taken financial advantage of seniors. Her jury trial experience also includes business disputes and probate and trust matters.

Murphy has acted as co-lead counsel in a number of consumer class actions which have returned millions of dollars to consumers across the country.

Murphy has served as a commissioner on the California Commission on Access to Justice for over a decade.

In 2015 Murphy was named to the Daily Journal’s list of the Top 100 women lawyers in California, as well as its list of the Top 25 plaintiff attorneys in California. Northern California Super Lawyers and San Francisco Magazine have recognized her every year since 2013. She maintains an AV Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell.

Murphy earned a BA in science and technology from Vassar College, and a JD from the Georgetown University Law Center.

The mother of two sons, Murphy’s great grandfather Jim Murphy emigrated from Co. Cork to Jamestown, South Dakota to work on the railroads. She is a member of the Irish American Bar Association of Northern California.
