R. DAVID DONOGHUE

R. DAVID Donoghue is a partner in the Chicago office of Holland & Knight LLP. He is an established IP trial attorney who serves as the leader of the firm’s national Intellectual Property Group.

Donoghue advises clients from major corporations to midsize businesses on technology disputes, such as patent, tradesecret,trademark,copyrightandComputer Fraud and Abuse Act.

Whether he is asserting his client’s IP, defending against competitors, or fending off NonPracticing Entities, Donoghue blends his deep litigation experience with practical business insight garnered from his in-house experience. As a founding member of Aptiv (f/k/a Delphi) Licensing and Litigation Group, he handled substantial international IP litigation and licensing matters.

Donoghue has served as an adjunct professor at the Loyola University Chicago School of Law, teaching legal research, writing and IP courses.

Donoghue has been recognized by Best Lawyers in America since 2015, and Illinois Super Lawyers since 2014. Managing Intellectual Property magazine has named him as an IP star since 2013, and he maintains an AV Preeminent rating from Martindale-Hubbell.

Donoghue earned a BSE from the University of Michigan, and a JD from Georgetown University Law Center.

Donoghue and his wife have three children: Charlie, Ruth and Clark. He traces his Irish ancestry to Co. Cork back to the 1810s.
