JOHN P. DOHERTY

JOHN P. Doherty is a partner in the Litigation & Trial Practice Group at Alston & Bird LLP. Based in the firm’s New York office, he is a banking and financial services litigator with deep industry experience in lending, structured finance, asset management and complex financial products.

Doherty advises financial institutions, investment funds and special servicers in complex disputes involving real estate finance and distressed assets, securities, and derivatives.

Doherty’s practice extends beyond litigation to include risk management and strategic advisory services for capital markets clients facing possible litigation. In addition, he handles complex commercial litigation and arbitration for Fortune 500 and other companies across multiple industries.

Doherty was previously a partner at Thacher Proffitt & Wood LLP in New York. He is a frequent speaker and author on legal issues relating to the credit crisis.

Doherty earned a BA from the University of Notre Dame, and a JD from Fordham University School of Law.

Doherty and his wife have four children: Jack, Maeve, Clare and Kara. His maternal grandparents were from counties Mayo and Roscommon, and his paternal grandparents were from Co.Donegal.DohertyhasdualU.S.-Irishcitizenship.
