PHILLIP J. DUFFY

PHILLIP J. Duffy is a litigator and director at Gibbons P.C., where he represents clients in a broad range of litigation matters. Although based in the firm’s headquarters in Newark, New Jersey, Duffy also regularly represents clients in New York and Pennsylvania, where he is also admitted to practice, and in many other jurisdictions where he has been admitted pro hac vice.

For 30 years, Duffy has defended a wide rangeoftraditionalmaterialsandequipmentmanufacturers and drug product manufacturers in personal injury, wrongful death and property damage cases alleging design and manufacturing defects and failure to warn, including, but not limited to, cases arising out of accidents and exposure to asbestos-containing products.

He has also represented an array of private and public entities in a variety of business litigation matters, including breach of contract and other commercial disputes, defamation and other media law matters, and land use cases involving zoning and condemnation. Moreover,heiscertifiedinE-DiscoveryBestPractices and is a founding member of the Gibbons Electronic Discovery & Information Management Counseling Task Force. He regularly counsels clients and frequently lectures on information governance and e-discovery issues.

Duffy has been recognized by Best Lawyers in the area of Product Liability Defense, and New Jersey Super Lawyers in the areas of Business Litigation and Medical Malpractice Defense Litigation.

Duffy earned a BA from Rutgers College, and a JD, cum laude, from Seton Hall University School of Law, where he was a member of the Editorial Board of the Seton Hall Constitutional Law Journal.

Duffy and his wife Margaret (Kiely) Duffy have three children: Phillip, Jr., Kiely Anne and Nicole.

Duffy traces his roots on his father’s side to Aranmore, Co. Donegal. He is a member of the Irish American Bar Association of New Jersey.
