JOHN K. Lyons is a restructuring partner at DLA Piper, and is based in the firm’s Chicago office. He formerly served as the global co-head of DLA’s Industrial Sector. Lyons represents major U.S. and global corporations, committees, lenders and boards of directors in complex business reorganizations, acquisitions and divestitures, typically in distressed situations, in a broad variety of industries. Selected representations include counsel for US Airways, Delphi Corporation, VeraSun Corporation, and the official committee of unsecured creditors in American Airlines. Lyons is an industry recognized attorney, receiving awards from Chambers USA, The Legal 500 United States, and the Global 500 Restructuring and Insolvency Lawyers. He was selected by his peers as a Leading Lawyer in 2021. Lyons currently serves as trustee for the State Universities Retirement System (Illinois) providing retirement benefits and services to over 240,000 participants. Lyons earned a BA from Georgetown University and a JD, cum laude, from Villanova University School of Law. He is a member of several musical groups including The Celtniks, a Chicago-based band that performs Irish music.
