DUFFY J. MAGILLIGAN

DONALD J. “Duffy” Magilligan is a partner at Cotchett, Pitre & McCarthy, LLP, and is based in the firm’s San Francisco office. He pursues justice on behalf of wildfire victims, families whose loved ones have died, victims of others’ fraud and negligence, and other just causes.

Prior to joining CPM, Magilligan spent 10 years as a prosecutor in Santa Clara County (2012–2018) and Contra Costa County (2008–2012) handling cases involving murder, street gangs, wiretaps, domestic violence, robbery, fraud, identity theft, property crimes, and crimes of violence. He was recognized for distinguished service by the Santa Clara District Attorney, San Jose Police Department Gang Intelligence Unit, and the San Jose Police Academy where he taught ethics, evidence, and search and seizure. Magilligan earned a BS in economics from Loyola Marymount University, and a JD from the University of San Francisco, where he was a member of the Law Review and sat on the faculty-student steering committee at the Leo T. McCarthy Center for Public Service and the Common Good.

Married with two children, Luke and Claire, Magilligan traces his Irish ancestry to counties Derry and Louth.
