MICHAEL J. SORICH

MICHAEL J. Sorich is a partner at Cavanagh Law Group in Chicago, where he specializes in personal injury, wrongful death, trucking and medical malpractice litigation. He has been named a Leading Lawyer by the Leading Lawyers Network since 2019, an honor limited to the top five percent of attorneys in Illinois.

Sorich has tried more than 50 criminal and civil cases in state and federal courts, and argued before the Illinois State Appellate Court. He joined Cavanagh Law Group in 2016 as a partner after working 13 years at the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, where he served as the youngest ever supervisor in the Civil Division.

Since joining Cavanagh Law Group, Sorich has obtained more than $80 million in verdicts and settlements in plaintiff’s personal injury trial work and wrongful death cases. Among them is a $20 million landmark settlement with the City of Chicago in a “code of silence” case. Sorich helped uncover dramatic evidence that forced the city and police department to acknowledge the Chicago Police Department’s longentrenched code of silence.

Significant settlements include $7.5 million for a woman who suffered traumatic injuries after being struck by a Metra commuter train, $5.9 million for the widow of a man who was struck and killed by a semi-truck, and $6 million for a man who nearly drowned in a supervised pool.

Sorich is a sought-after panelist and guest lecturer with an impressive roster of speaking engagements. He serves on the Illinois Trial Lawyers Association Board of Managers. He is also president of the Marist Law Association and serves on its Board of Directors. He previously was included in Chicago Law Bulletin’s Top 40 Under 40 list and was named one of Leading Lawyers Emerging Lawyers of 2017.

Sorich earned a BA in accounting from Illinois Wesleyan University and a JD, cum laude, from The John Marshall Law School.

Sorich and his wife Katie live in the Chicago suburbs with their three children. He grew up on the South Side of Chicago with strong Irish roots on both sides of his family. Sorich’s mother’s family comes from Co. Mayo and his father’s family is from Co. Cork. He is a member of the Irish Fellowship Club of Chicago.
