Irish Legal 100

A Record Setting Year

Debbie McGoldrick, Senior Editor, Irish Voice/Irish Legal 100

IT’S been a fast 15 years since our first Irish Legal 100, and we’re proud to say that we are literally bursting at the seams with a record 216 honorees in the Class of 2022.

There have been ups and downs along the way – led, obviously, by the pandemic which still lurks – but Irish pride is Teflon tough no matter what the world throws at us. The Irish Legal 100 not only survived but flourished during the Covid years when we thought priorities would understandably shift, and that completing our questionnaire wouldn’t be top of anyone’s to-do list.

But Irish Legal 100 membership is important to our people. Our 2022 honorees come from all walks of Irish American life. Some are the first members of their families to attend college; others are descended from a long line of attorneys who have proudly kept the legal tradition alive.

The success stories are plentiful, as evidenced by the biographies of our members. Each one of our honorees is proud to be Irish, and many wish to become more immersed in their heritage. They’ve come to the right place thanks to our 15-year-old and growing network of Irish America’s finest legal standouts.

In a class full of accomplished honorees, this year we are joined by leaders of many of our country’s best-known brands. Thomas Moriarty is executive vice president and general counsel at CVS Health – who among us has never shopped at a CVS? Mr. Moriarty’s parents must be proud of his stellar career. His mother was from Co. Mayo, and his dad was a Kerryman.

Carol Anderson is a top attorney (and dual U.S.-Ireland citizen) at Microsoft. Ditto Kathryn Sheehan at Amazon. Sean Coffey, son of parents from counties Kerry and Cork, is the 24th general counsel of the United States Navy.

It’s a truth as old as time – when the Irish come to America, they make their mark. It might take a generation or two, but the Irish always show up and get to work.

Our country is so much better for their accomplishments.

As we do each year, we will celebrate our honorees in Washington, D.C. at a reception hosted by Ireland’s Ambassador to the United States, Geraldine Byrne Nason, who recently assumed the role after representing her country as ambassador to the United

Nations. We are extremely grateful for the hospitality and support. Our honorees look forward to the annual party to catch up with old friends and make new ones too.

The grand Irish tradition in the field of law continues to flourish thanks to the 216 men and women you’ll enjoy reading about in this issue. Congratulations to all for your outstanding achievements.
