CHRISTINA M. EGAN

CHRISTINA M. EGAN is the managing partner of the Chicago office at McGuireWoods. She serves on the firm’s Board of Partners, and practices in the area of government investigations and white collar litigation.

An experienced trial lawyer, Egan focuses her practice on representing companies and individuals with matters involving both criminal and civil investigations by the government as well as federal and state regulators. In that capacity, she handles internal investigations, provides compliance advice, and represents companies in investigations involving a number of government agencies. Her practice also includes counseling companies on transaction risk assessment where a party may have the potential for government exposure.

Prior to joining the firm, Egan served 10 years as an assistant U.S. attorney in the Northern District of Illinois, four of which she was a deputy chief. She tried more than 20 federal criminal cases as an assistant attorney.

Egan is an adjunct professor at Northwestern School of Law, teaching a seminar on federal RICO law since 2012. She previously taught trial advocacy there from 2008 to 2011.

Crain’s Chicago Business named Egan to its 2020 Notable Women in Law list for 2020. She has also been recognized by The Best Lawyers in America for 2022, and America’s Leading Lawyers for Business. Egan has received numerous awards from the FBI, Chicago Police Department, the Drug Enforcement Agency and the Department of Justice.

Egan earned a BA, magna cum laude, from the University of Michigan, and a JD, cum laude, Order of the Coif, from Northwestern Pritzker School of Law.

Egan great grandparents were natives of Co. Cork who settled in Chicago. Her husband John Patrick O’Malley, Jr. is a deputy U.S. marshal and the grandson of Irish immigrants. Egan is the stepmother of two girls, Kayleigh Marie and Mary Claire, and the mother of Margaret Gallagher O’Malley and Elizabeth Fleming O’Malley.
