DION W. HAYES

DION W. Hayes is the deputy managing partnerforLitigation,andformerlyservedasthechair of the Restructuring and Insolvency Department at McGuireWoods. He is based in the firm’s Richmond, Virginia office.

Hayes works closely with the firm’s nine litigation department chairs in administering and leading the firm’s litigation practices, comprised of approximately 500 litigators in 10 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.K.

With McGuireWoods since 1992, Hayes’s professional practice has focused on commercial litigation, insolvency law and financial restructuring, bankruptcy, out-of-court workouts, distressed asset acquisitions, and recapitalizations. He has appeared in federal courts in a number of states.

Hayes has represented debtors, official and unofficial committees of creditors or equity holders, senior lenders and administrative agents, Section 363 purchasers, post-confirmation plan administrators, liquidating trustees, and bond holders, in bankruptcy courts and other courts throughout the United States. He has represented clients with respect to derivative terminations in insolvency cases, as litigation targets in large Ponzi scheme cases, and in cross-border insolvency cases.

Hayes earned a BA from the University of Virginia, and a JD from William & Mary Law School, where he serves as an adjunct professor, teaching a bankruptcy course.

Married with two children, Hayes’ mother is a native of Co. Down. His father is from Co. Cork. They married in Ireland and moved to Virginia in the early 1960s.
