BRIAN J. NEARY

REGARDED as one of the premier criminal defense lawyers in New Jersey, Brian J. Neary devotes his practice, the Law Offices of Brian J. Neary, to the rigorous defense of those accused of crimes.

A certified trial attorney, with offices in Hackensack, Jersey City and New York City, he represents clients in both state and federal courts.

Neary is a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and the American Board of Criminal Lawyers. For more than 30 years he has been selected by his colleagues in the legal community for inclusion in Best Lawyers in America in threecategories—WhiteCollarCriminalDefense, Non-White Collar Criminal Defense and Driving While Intoxicated Defense.

Neary has also been named to the Top 100 lawyers list in New Jersey Super Lawyers for more than 15 years, including as a Top 10 lawyer for four years straight, 2018-2021. He was featured in the March 2020 cover story entitled “Fighting Irishman.”

Neary is the past president of the Hudson County (New Jersey) Bar Association, and a past president of the Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (New Jersey). The Hudson County Bar Association named Neary its 2015 Criminal Lawyer of the Year.

Neary is a trustee of the New Jersey State Bar Association. He is the State Bar’s representative on the New Jersey Criminal Sentencing and Disposition Commission, and is a past member of the State Bar’s Judicial and Prosecutorial Appointments Committee.

Neary teaches trial advocacy at both Rutgers School of Law and the University of Notre Dame Law School. He is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of Notre Dame, and received a JD from New York University School of Law. He is chairman of the board of his alma mater, Hudson Catholic High School in Jersey City.

A native of Jersey City, Neary’s grandfather was from Ballyhaunis, Co. Mayo. His mother’s family was from Co. Clare.
